Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Club is set to comeback to London by 2010, marking the return of the bunny girls to the city where they were once considered a landmark. Back in the Swinging Sixties, the Playboy club was a mecca for celebrities and high-rollers. Now, the owner of the entertainment empire intends to revive the magnificence of the club by recreating its old atmosphere, rabbit ears included.
The venue is expected to offer roulette, poker and blackjack tables plus a wide variety of dishes, from hamburgers to haute cuisine, prepared by renowned chefs. Also, the Playboy Company has announced that it intends to hire some of the leading European DJs to play live music while guests dine and gamble.
More than 27 years ago, the original Playboy Club in Mayfair was closed by the police due to suspected gambling irregularities. In spite of the fact that no evidence of such irregularities was found, the club never opened again and the satellite clubs in Manchester and Portsmouth were also closed for good.
According to executive vice-president of Playboy Dick Rosenzweig, the company is looking for opportunities around the world and has plans to open a casino and hotel in Macau. “The casino will have blackjack, poker and other popular table games and it will be part of a huge complex that will include a five-star hotel,” Rosenzweig commented.
Most likely, the London Playboy Club will be located on Haymarket, in London’s West End, in what used to be the Sports Café.
