Nova Scotia´s Tory cabinet will have to decide within the next few weeks if it wants to spend $100 million to get out of a casino management contract with a U.S. company. The province´s gaming corporation has studied the issue and put a report before cabinet.
Marie Mullally, president of the corporation, won´t say what the agency is recommending. The March 31 deadline is the first time in 10 years the province will have the opportunity to bow out.
The next chance comes in five years. New Democrat Bill Estabrooks says the public will not stand for the Conservatives spending 100 (m) million dollars on the casino, especially given all of the controversy surrounding video lottery terminals.
Premier John Hamm says he hasn´t heard whether Caesar´s Entertainment is interested getting out of its management deal. But Mullally says Caesar´s has told her that it is wants to focus on it core assets - and Nova Scotia´s casinos are not core assets to the Las Vegas company.
