The L.A. Poker Classic that is taking place at the elegant Commerce Casino, attracted 791 players who paid $10,000 to have a chance to win the $2.4 million prize that will go for the first place. Players who make it to the final table will receive a guaranteed prize of at least $250,000.

The best 54 players will be competing for a prize pool of more than $7.9 million, which means that the 2007 L.A. Poker Classic is the largest $10,000 buy-in event in the history of the World Poker Tour.

So far, last year’s World Series of Poker champion Jamie Gold has already been eliminated, as well as top player Daniel Negreanu. Last year’s L.A. Poker Classic winner didn’t make it to the second day either and neither did Joe Hachem, Antonio Esfandiari, JJ Liu, Alex Jacob and Jennifer Tilly.
